Intermittent fasting is one of the most popular health and fitness trends. Not only does it help you to lose weight but improves overall health too.

What is Intermittent Fasting?

Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating. It doesn’t specify what foods you should be eating rather when you should be eating them.

Intermittent Fasting Methods

•The 16/8 method: It involves restricting your daily eating period to 8 hours and fasting for 16 hours in between. You could either skip breakfast or dinner, according to what suits you.

•Eat-stop-eat: This method involves fasting for 24 hours twice a week, for example by not eating from dinner one day until the dinner next day. It is an advanced method so it’s better if you start off with the 16/8 method first.

•The 5:2 diet: With this method, you consume 500-600 calories on two non-consecutive days of the week but eat normally the other 5 days.

All these methods would help you lose weight by reducing your calorie intake, as long as you’re not eating a lot more during the eating window.

How does Intermittent Fasting affect your body?

Intermittent fasting makes major changes to the hormone levels which facilitate weight loss and increase your metabolic rate.

It lowers the insulin levels in your body, increases the levels of growth hormone and norepinephrine (the fat burning hormone).

Additionally, it makes your immune system strong which helps your body fight inflammation.

Safety and side effects

Intermittent fasting is a very safe way for weight loss if you’re healthy and well-nourished overall. However, initially you may feel weak and your brain might not perform as well as you’re used to. This is temporary and gets fine once your body adapts to the new meal schedule.

If you have any of the following conditions, it’s good to consult your doctor before trying out intermittent fasting:

•Have diabetes

•Have low blood pressure

•Take medications

•Have a history of eating disorders

•Pregnant/breastfeeding

•Have an irregular menstrual cycle

Intermittent fasting works wonders for some people, not others. The best way is to try it out for a while and see how your body responds to this method.

Pakistani students applying to colleges in the United States become experts in filling out documents by the end of the process. Are you done with the Common App? Did you get accepted into a US college? The hustle to make your dream come true does not end there, you must go through the struggle of applying for a student (F1) visa to the United States.

We are here to make it a little easy for you by this step by step guide.

First thing to do: Email your college regarding the I20 form. Students applying for a visa require this form from their college before filling out anything else.

I20’s differ according to the college you applied to but this is the information it usually entails.

After this: Many people get confused where to go to fill out the forms and get remaining information. Go to this website:

https://www.ustraveldocs.com/pk/pk-niv-visaapply.asp#HowtoApply

For an international student, the visa application is an expensive process. You will need to pay two types of visa fees:

  1. SEVIS: The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) is an Internet-based system that tracks F, M, and J visa participants (and their family

members) from the time they receive their initial documentation (either an I-20 or a DS-2019) until they graduate/leave school or conclude/leave program. You will go here and pay the SEVIS fee: https://fmjfee.com/i901fee/index.html (Remember to take a screenshot of proof of payment)

  • Visa Fee to the Pakistan Embassy – you will do this after completing other steps of the application.

Next and the most important step is to fill out your DS-160 form, you can find the form and extra help by accessing this website:

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/forms/d

 s-160-online-nonimmigrant-visa-application/ds-160-faqs.html

Once you have completed the DS-160 form and paid the Sevis Fee, you will go to schedule your appointment.

On the official website for applying for a visa, you will see this on the left hand side:

Click schedule my appointment and it will direct you to the form you need to fill. One of the steps of booking your appointment is paying the Pakistani visa fee. You will have to go to any Allied Bank branch and pay your visa fee after which you can schedule your appointment!

Team Paperazzi recently visited Zainab Salman’s studio nestled between Gulberg’s popular residential area near Firdous Market, a spacious store showcasing a large variety of luxury pret.

Upon entering the studio, we were greeted by the lovely staff who guided us around the single floor studio. Across the studio were many mannequins wearing both old and new collections, alongside racks of beautifully organised outfits. You can tell an organised mind is at work here.

Zainab Salman was on our fashion radar for a while, especially in Ramadan because famous actress Ayeza Khan chooses Zainab Salman each time for her Ramadan transmissions. Who can forget the chemistry between Meenu and Faazi in the famous drama Chupke Chupke with Meenu in a pink outfit being picked up at the gate by Faazi? This year again Ayeza Khan has chosen to wear Zainab’s upcoming collection in Chaudhry and sons.

If the brand is known for one thing, it is ruffles! It seems Zainab loves to add playful ruffles to her dupattas and now in her new collection to sleeves. Another thing that stood out for us is the detailed and delicate work, more along the lines of Karachi designers. Lahore-based designers use a lot of gota and heavy embellishments, but Zainab’s work is on the finer side, more for people who appreciate the detailed thread work and sequins, along with edgier cuts. Her fabric for her summer collection was breathable cotton silk, and it was a refreshing change to see formals that can be worn in the sweltering heat without melting down faster than Will Smith at an Oscar.

Zainab’s  magnificent lehnga cholis deserve a special mention. After a long time we have seen a monochrome and all white number that has caught our attention; a stunning black one with an embroidered choli and ruffled lehnga. The other one was a classic white on white one with embroidery and scallop detailing on the edges, we could easily say it is our pick for the upcoming season.

Another standout outfit for Eid was an apple green outfit from  her luxury pret collection.  The shirt had an embroidered neckline, ruffles on the sleeves, and lace work on the hem paired with matching pants.

There is something for everyone in that studio whether you are looking to wear a classic outfit or step out of your comfort zone! There are very few designers who have it all and give it all, and Zainab Salman is one of them.

Deserts?

What comes to mind when we think about deserts? Hot, blazing, SCORCHING!

We don’t like deserts much due to its scarce resources, dryness and sand dunes.

But, we all like cold deserts with blue skies, strong winds and white granules. Don’t we?

Wait! What? There are no such deserts. But what if there is? YES! There exists such a creation of Allah by the name of “Katpana Desert” or “Sarfaranga Desert” in Skardu which is a cold desert.

Excited to know about that? Let’s start.

World’s highest desert

In Skardu, Gilgit Baltistan, the Katapana Desert is the world’s highest desert. Sand dunes surround the Indus River near Skardu. This desert extends from the Khaplu Valley to Nubra Ladakh, and from the Shigar Skardu Valley to Zanskar, Occupied Kashmir, however the largest desert region is in the Skardu and Shigar valley.

This combination of the colors of the lush plantation, giant mountains, rocky plains, flowing, curvy streams, waterfalls, cloudy skies, and picturesque landscapes is rare to find but still expected. What is really unexpecting then? It is the high desert on the top of mountains. Allah has blessed this wonder only to Pakistan.

Weather Conditions

This cold desert has unbelievably cold nights and sandy views that insists the travelers to visit it. It is marked as the top best deserts of the world to visit.

The average temperature of the desert is about 8 degrees to 26 degrees which can drop as low as -10 degrees at night. We know it’s funny but interesting to say to pack your warmest clothes for a desert expedition but we’re not lying!

What to pack? — Essentials

  • Hiking boots & Gaiters (To prevent sand getting into your boots)
  • If you are a contact lens wearer, bring a spare pair. Sandstorms are likely to happen and if you get a sand corn or dust in your eye you will be pleased to have a set of spare ones with you.)
  • Warm hat and gloves
  • Wear or pack a bandana or scarf that you can use to cover your face or neck if a dust-storm kicks up.
  • An extra jacket! it tends to get really cold at night.

Rama Lake is a lake located near Astore in Gilgit−Baltistan, Pakistan. It is located in the Astore Valley, which is shaded by oak trees and other vegetation.

It is known as one of the most famous and beautiful lakes in Pakistan. The color of the lake changes drastically when there’s sunlight — turning greenish blue from dark green. In winters this lake remains frozen from December to March. You can see the reflection of Chongra and Nanga Parbat peaks on its surface.

Access

In order to reach the Lake – you’ll first have to reach the Rama lake base camp.

The base camp is very famous for tenting in summers to enjoy the stargazing and cold nights! — also scary at night!

Base camp to Rama lake is at a hiking distance of 1.5 hours to 2 hours. The time of hiking depends on the route condition.

However, You may also hire horses/mules for yourself if you feel you are not fit enough for the hike! — but you’ll be missing out on the hiking experience!

Supplies

  • Proper hiking shoes
  • Hiking stick
  • Mule for your luggage (he will just race to the destination)
  • A warm jacket and a pair of gloves
  • Inhaler, if you’re asthmatic (there might be a slight breathing difficulty)
  • Umbrella and a raincoat

It takes only three minutes to walk from Lahore Railway Station to Do Moria Pul and reach the massive Dilli Darwaza, a massive structure that welcomes you to the old city of Lahore.

History

The Darwaza was one of thirteen gates that granted access to the city of Lahore, which was originally contained behind a 30-foot high fortified wall built by the third Mughal Emperor Akbar in the 1600s. Delhi Gate, on the eastern side of the Walled City, still stands impressively after centuries.

The Mughals crossed Delhi Gate to travel from Delhi to Lahore Fort, making it the most important of all the gates. The straight passage leading from this gate to Lahore Fort came to be known as “the path of royalty”.

The city gate was frequently used to broadcast public information such as announcements, tax and toll schedules and communications from palaces and forts. The public was assembled at a gate, where the courtiers and guards gave announcements. The city gates were extensively defended, decorated with shields, art, and inscriptions, and served as a warning or intimidation station. They were also used to show the heads of offenders who had been beheaded.

Many tea, spice, and grain businesses could well be found outside Delhi Gate. These are actually part of the Spice Market, Akbari Mandi. This is a wonderful tourist attraction; the gate is lit up at night for visitors. It is a must-see location. There are also local vendors offering intriguing traditional products like bangles, khussas, toys, and textiles.

Lahore is famed throughout the country for its authentic Desi food, which can be found in places like Anarkali, Mozang, Lakshmi Chowk, Abbot Road, the Walled City, and many others.

But if you’re visiting Delhi gate, one must undertake a food quest fully armed with tasting buddies. Because, the food list goes on: haleem, hareesa, fish, nihari, gol gappay, kunna, paaye, channay, BBQ, karahi!

Because you you haven’t lived in Lahore if you haven’t tried these foods!
