Toni & Guy

TONI&GUY South Pakistan, while being closed from the 19th of March as per government regulations, reopened its doors to the public on the 19th of May. While we were locked down due to the widespread of the novel coronavirus, we accepted that the world, and especially our industry was not going to be the same as it once was.

Accepting, and ultimately adjusting to the ‘new normal’ was not an easy task. However, the safety of our clients and our staff members has always been the most important aspect of our ethos at TONI&GUY, as we are truly one family.

In order to ensure our client’s safety and protection we have implemented social distancing and gold-standard hygiene procedures throughout the salon journey. Upon entry, clients are obligated to fill out a form declaring their travel and health history over the last fourteen days. Following which, temperatures are checked, their hands and shoes are disinfected, and they are given their own personal Client Protection Pack. This includes their own set of gloves, a mask, gown and a disposable drinking cup.

Prior to the seating of each and every client, the area seated upon by the previous client is disinfected. This increases the time gap between client turnover time, however it is an aspect we consider most necessary. Furthermore, clients are seated at a 2.5 metre distance from one another at all times, with a limited number of personnel being allowed in the salons at given times. Roughly, the number of persons in the salon premises has reduced by 40 to 50 per cent. We have had to limit the use of our waiting area, and now ask clients to wait in their cars should they have to. We have also introduced the concept of ‘Elderly Hour’, where clients aged 50 or above are encouraged to book their appointments from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. We’re utilising space in the salon now more than ever, and have now made more stations on the first floor of the salon in order to adhere to social distancing measures.

Aside from that, our staff also have their own personal protective gear, and now have to conduct each and every service whilst wearing a mask, gown, a pair of gloves, as well as a covering over their shoes. During lockdown, we kept in contact with all of our team members over phone calls as well as Zoom conference calls and advised them to remain at home and not meet anyone outside of their immediate family. In light of scary and uncertain news, we made efforts to keep our staff motivated and inspired by conducting weekly global education sessions through Zoom.

We have also had to stop some services in our salons, such as threading, as that would require the technician to remove their personal protective mask. We also now encourage consultations over the phone to reduce the need for contact in person, and have now initiated the TONI&GUY helpline, on which clients call or message and we speak to them about whatever concern they may have. If they need any particular product, they place an order with us and we have it delivered to them.

We do not know how long we will face the threat of the coronavirus for, however it remains plausible that such measures will remain in place in the long run. We are confident that anyone who walks into our salon is entering into a safe and sterile salon environment and are extremely thankful to be able to do our job again!
