How To Stay Fit This Ramadan feat. Sumrina Khan of @getfitwithsammyk

It’s that time of year again when fasting becomes norm and your routine and eating habits tend to go topsy turvy. Here are some tips to get you through the Holy Month of Ramadan without piling on the extra lbs!

PLAN YOUR MONTH:
Planning is key when creating a routine, otherwise you’ll get sucked into temptation too soon too quick!

BUY GROCERIES AHEAD OF TIME:
Sure the household supplies will consist of a lot of oily (and delicious) items, but fill your cart up with healthy and nutritious foods that will keep you satiated and active.

KEEP IT MOVIN’:
The change in sleep patterns and the long fasted state will have you feeling lethargic, but beat the blues and get some form of exercise in. Whether it’s a walk in your garden, a short gym session or even a glorious session of yoga – get that sweat in. (You can thank me later).

STAY HYDRATED:
We all know the importance of drinking H20, but it’s essential to load up on the water during the non-fasting hours. ProTip101: Keep a (reusable) bottle on you throughout.

MEAL PREP:
This is a big one! Plan your suhoor/Iftar meals ahead of time and make sure they are ready on the table for you. This way, you can participate in meal times with the family without compromising on your clean eating.

RELAX:
Ramadan is a month of blessings, praying and family. So cut yourself some slack and enjoy a not-so-healthy meal ONCE a week.
